2010-03-06: A visit to Watt Market and Tinapa Business Resort

Day 9,
Saturday 6th March, 2010

This morning we went to the local Watt Market. It was an exciting and good experience. The market had lots of small shops with narrow lanes selling just about anything. It was large, bustling, vibrant and full of people. Thus, we were told to be always be with Jane and Becky in order not to get lost on the busy lanes. Haggling is common and you can expect to bargain up to 50% of less the original price. Although it wasn't very different from the local markets (Haat Bazar) in India, the one difference I found here was people were more courteous and open. Everyone greets you with "Hello my brother", "How are you my friend", "How was your day". The kids in the market were also so excited to see so many foreigners and were eager to shake hands with us. A lot of team-mates bought the traditional and colorful fabrics to get their clothes stitched. I was more interested in buying local artifacts and handbags. As it was getting late, I decided to come back again and look for same.

On the way back, Sara called up Kei at the hotel and requested him to order Pizzas for us. We were so tired and sweaty after our trip to Watt Market that we did not wanted to wait for another hour for our meal.

We set out for Tinapa Business Resort later in the day. Its a nice and beautiful resort built not far from the town. The resort also had a water park with water slides and wave pool. It was a pity that not many people were there at the resort. We were told that the scene at weekdays are even worse. The water slides were not working and the wave pool did not had the wave on. Anyways we frolicked in the water for some time and I also got further swimming lessons from Marijke. We also did a walking race in the pool with Drew coming out to be the winner.

The resort also had a nice restaurant, a craft village and a shopping mall. Again with very few shops open and functional at the mall and even less people. It looked like a huge investment going down. I hope the place will be bustling with activities in a couple of years.

At the resort, Sara informed that the boat trip planned for tomorrow has been cancelled as some tourists were kidnapped in a neighboring state. So, tomorrow seems to be a day to chill. Chow.
